Italian Governor Accused of Corruption

Rome : The Italian police arrested Ottaviano del Turco, Governor of the Italian region of Abruzzo Monday, accused of taking money commissions for 6 million euros (4.08 million dollars), according to official sources.

Del Turco, from opposition Democrat Party (PD) was arrested together with another 10 officials in an operation made by the prosecution and bordering police, also investigating another 35 people.

Against del Turco, there are charges for association with criminals, corruption and concussion for private steps.

PD is led by Walter Veltroni, former mayor of Rome, and faced the alliance People of Liberty, led by current Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi in the legislative elections in April this year.
