Beyrouth : The Shiite Hizballah Movement (Party of God) and Israel successfully completed Wednesday a prisoner exchange through Rosh Hanikra border check point.
Radio Israel said joint DNA tests ran by the Army and Red Cross confirmed that the remains Hizballah returned are Israeli soldiers Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser captured in 2006.
Israel freed four Lebanese and Samir Qantar, who was serving life sentence since 1979 for killing Israelis, and returned 185 bodies of Palestinians and Lebanese combatants on 23 Red Cross trucks.
TV channel Al Manar says the five ex prisoners handed over to UN mediator, German Gerhard Conrad, were welcomed as heroes among shouts of victory on “enemy” Israel.
The local media says Lebanese President Michel Souleiman and Prime Minister Fouad Siniora will officially welcome them at Beirut airport and at their hometowns as well.
Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas also congratulated the relatives of Quantar and the other Lebanese.
