Postal employees want central schools to admit their wards

Lucknow : The postal department has initiated efforts to enable the children of its employees, posted in the rural areas, get admission in Central Schools, an official said.

“On our request, Minister for Information Technology and Communication Jyotiraditya Scindia has written to Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh in this regard,” Neelam Srivastava, chief postmaster general of Uttar Pradesh, told IANS.

She said the dependents of defence and central government employees have this facility and since the postal department is also a central government organisation, its employees should also be provided this facility.

“Finance Minister P. Chidambaram has also been requested to increase the interest rates in the saving schemes of the post offices,” she said.

The postal department is also launching ‘project arrow’ that will be aimed at streamlining the services provided by the post offices.

“The pilot project will be launched in Uttar Pradesh August 18 and it aims at improving our services like letter distribution, money order, and speed post,” she added.

Initially, the project will be launched in the post offices of Bhadohi, Varanasi, Amethi, Akbarpur and Bahraich.
