Ramallah : Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad on Wednesday threatened to retreat a security plan if Israel continued its raids in West Bank cities.
“The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) may draw back the security plan that it implements in the Palestinian towns if Israel steps up its aggressive acts,” Fayyad told reporters in Ramallah.
The escalation of Israeli raids, which include detentions and shutting down charities, “coincided with the start of the security plan that aims at serving the citizens,” Fayyad said.
Recently, Israel launched a crackdown against Hamas-linked institutions and charities and closed scores of them, mainly in Nablus city in which the Palestinian forces were deployed under a deal with Israel.
In recent months, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has deployed forces in two of the West Bank towns– Nablus and Jenin. However, Israeli troops have continued raiding Palestinian cities despite the presence of the Palestinian forces.
“When we achieve a tangible improvement in the security aspect, Israel works against what we agreed on in the Road Map,” Fayyad said, referring to the U.S.-backed peace plan which envisions a Palestinian security forces’ takeover of security control, enabling Israeli forces to withdraw.
He also questioned the effectiveness of the security and order plan under the Israeli interference in the PNA territories.
Earlier on Tuesday, Abbas threatened to withdraw his security forces from Nablus due to ongoing Israeli raids there.
