Aswat AlIraq news agency reported twin blasts at the National Theater and Al-Alawiya telephone Co. when a group of faithful readied to worship Ja far al-Sadiq, seventh of 12 Shiite Imams.

The attacks occurred when a group of faithful headed to Kadhimiyah sanctuary, north Baghdad, to honor another anniversary of the death of al-Kadhim in the year 799.

Shiite pilgrims have been frequent target of armed groups since the beginning of the US invasion of Iraq on March 2003.
