Chandigarh : The Chandigarh administration Wednesday announced its roadmap to make the city free of plastic by Oct 2, 2008.
The administration has issued a notification that no person, including shopkeepers, vendors, wholesaler, retailers and traders, would use polythene or plastic carry bags.
The order will come into effect from Oct 2, said the official spokesman.
“There are strict guidelines that no person will manufacture, store, import, sell or transport polythene and plastic carry bags in Chandigarh,” said the spokesman.
“The Governor of Punjab and administrator of Chandigarh, General (Retd.) S. F. Rodrigues has directed the concerned officers for the implementation of the orders. They are authorized to file complaints against the violators under section 19 of the Environment (Protection) Act 1986,” said the spokesman.
The Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh will act as a coordinator to implement the orders.
