“Kite-flying has become a big nuisance in the city because of tripping in recent days due to contact of metallic manja (thread) which is used by kite-fliers,” a Delhi government official said.

The issue was discussed at a high-level weekly power review meeting attended by power secretary, CEOs of power discoms and senior officers of state power department.

The Delhi government’s Power Minister A.K. Walia has instructed officials to initiate an awareness campaign against metallic threads, which is becoming cause for concern and frequent power supply tripping.

“A three-pronged campaign would be started. An advertisement campaign through newspapers, awareness through school education and FM Radio would be launched,” the official said.

“Delhi Police are also being approached to render cooperation in this regard. The Environment Department would also be requested to take immediate action against sale of imported metallic kite-flying thread,” the official said.

Meanwhile, Walia also instructed power discoms to provide uniforms to all their field staff by Aug 15 to overcome problem of fake employees visiting places of customers resulting in incidents of cheating and corruption.

He stressed on the need to maintain zero breakdowns to overcome hardship being faced by the consumers and asked the discoms to make their respective managers answerable for breakdowns.
