Beirut : Hezbollah mediator Wafiq Safa told reporters that Hezbollah turned over to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) “some remains of Israeli soldiers killed in 2006 war,” Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV reported Sunday.
The move came after Israel freed earlier on Sunday Lebanese detainee Nassim Nisr, who was arrested in 2002 on charges of spying for Hezbollah, at Nakoura borders south of Lebanon.
Nisr left Lebanon during the Israeli invasion in 1982 and joined his mother’s family in Israel where he married and had two Israeli daughters. But he gave up his Israeli citizenship to return to Lebanon.
Israel and Hezbollah have been involved in indirect negotiations aimed at securing the release of two Israeli soldiers, whose detention by Hezbollah in July 2006 triggered the 34-day war between the two sides. Germany has been acting as mediator in the swap negotiations.
