Jerusalem : Israel Defense Forces (IDF) transferred on Sunday the body remains of Israeli soldiers returned by Hezbollah to forensic examinations in order to verify the identities.
The body remains will undergo further inspection by Israeli Forensic Medicine Institute in Abu-Kabir, the spokesperson of IDF said in a statement.
Earlier, The International Committee of the Red Cross in Jerusalem confirmed that its representatives had received a box containing the remains of IDF soldiers at the Rosh Hanikra border crossing.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s office said it is not connected to the convicted Hezbollah spy Nissim Nasser’s release or to any other deal with the militant organization.
Nasser was released Sunday morning by Israel after serving a six-year jail term for spying on Hezbollah, the Lebanon-based al-Manar television reported.
