Rajesh Talwar in CBI custody for a day

By IANS,

Noida : Rajesh Talwar, father of Aarushi, whose murder – together with that of their domestic help – has shocked India, was sent to the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a day Monday.

The CBI, which Sunday took over the probe into the May 16 Noida murders, had sought custody of Aarushi’s dentist father for seven days, but the court here agreed to only one day, and specified that Talwar’s lawyer must be present during his interrogation.

Rajesh Talwar’s lawyers argued in court that he was not an accused in the case, since the CBI registered the murder cases against “unidentified persons”.

The body of Talwar’s 14-year-old daughter Aarushi was found from their home May 16. While police initially suspected missing domestic help Hemraj to be the murder, his body was found a day later from the terrace of the same house.

The case has been transferred to the CBI following widespread condemnation of of the way Utar Pradesh police had handled it, and its atempts to malign the victim as well as her father.
