“Syria renews appeal to all international figures and agencies to immediately shoulder legal and humanitarian responsibilities in forcing Israeli occupation authorities to secure suitable medical care to Seitan Nimr al-Wali,” a Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman said in a statement.

The spokesman said Syrian prisoner al-Wali, who spent more than24 years in Israeli occupation jails, suffered inhuman treatment in solitary confinement.

He has recently undergone a surgical operation in which his kidney was removed following long illness under Israeli indifference and stalling leading to this critical stage, the statement said.

Al-Wali was in need to a new surgical operation at al-Ramlah prison hospital which lacked adequate medical cadres and equipment, so putting Wali’s life in danger, it said.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the inhumane detention conditions for all Syrian prisoners, saying Israel is responsible for the health of all Syrian prisoners it holds.

Al-Wali is one of the Syrian prisoners in Israeli jails for committing “acts of resistance against the Israeli occupation” held from the Golan Heights.

The spokesman said the arbitrary detention of the Syrian prisoners under inhuman conditions have already led to the deterioration and subsequently death of former Syrian prisoner Hayel Abou Zeid in 2005.
