Chopra slips to 58th with four-over 75; Woods leads

By IANS,

San Diego : The front nine of the Torrey Pines once again proved to be a problem for Daniel Chopra, who went for a second successive four-over 75 to slip down to tied 58th at the end of the third round. Chopra is now 10-over for three days.

Leader Tiger Woods had just one birdie, but two eagles – both on the back nine, to come back with a one-under 70 that catapulted him into sole lead at three-under – one shot ahead of Englishman Lee Westwood (70) who was at two-under for three rounds Saturday.

Woods double bogeyed the first, bogeyed the fourth and then birdied the seventh to turn in two-under. On the back nine, he dropped shots on 12th and 14th, but eagled the 13th and then finished birdie-eagle for a 70 and sole lead.

Wood’s play considerable brightened his chances of a 14th Major, despite coming off a long lay-off and a knee surgery which continued to be sore Saturday.

Chopra’s earlier rounds were 73 and 75. The Indo-Swede player had three bogeys on the front stretch and another two on the back nine with just one birdie to show for the day on the par-5 13th hole.

This is the second US Open for Chopra, whose earlier finish in 2004 at Shinnecock Hills was tied 24th.
