Patna: The Government of Bihar has reconstituted Bihar Urdu Standing Committee (Bihar Urdu Mushawarati Committee) for promotion of this second official language of the state.

The committee will advise the Government on the measures to be adopted for the promotion of Urdu language and the steps required to be taken to provide adequate facilities for Urdu speaking people in educational, cultural and administrative matters.
Dr. Kaleem Ajiz, respected world renowned Urdu poet and scholar from Patna, has been appointed chairman of the committee. Veteran journalist Dr Rizwan Ahmad has been named vice chairman. The Raj Bhasha Department issued a notification to the effect on 17th June.
Naushad Ahmad, chairman of state minority commission, himself visited the residence of Dr Kaleem Ajiz at the order of the chief minister with a copy of the notification and requested him to accept this post.
The term of the committee will be three years and its chairman will be given facilities equivalent to a minister. Separate notifications will be issued regarding facilities given to its deputy chairman and members. The head office of the committee will be in Urdu Directorate in Patna.
According to the notification, signed by the governor, two seats of members are vacant in this committee. Presently the committee has 15 members including the chairman.
The previous government had also appointed a committee of which Dr Ajiz was nominated chairman but he had refused to accept the post due to some inevitable reasons. This time the government has again requested him to accept this post, given his service and contribution to Urdu language and literature, which he has accepted.
Other members of the committee include Syed Shah Shamim Munami, Sajjadanasheen Khankah Munamiah, Mitanghat, Patna, Dr Imteyaz Ahmad, director of Khuda Baksh Oriental Public Library, Patna, Maulana Abul Kalam Qasmi Shamsi, principal madrasa Shamsul Hoda, Patna, and director of Urdu, Urdu directorate, Patna.
