Trader robbed of 3.5 kg gold in Chhattisgarh

Raipur : A trader from Punjab was Wednesday robbed of 3.5 kg of gold at a busy area of this Chhattisgarh capital as two men threw chilly powder into his eyes and ran away with his bag, police said.

Neeraj Khanna, a jewellery trader from Amritsar, had arrived here Monday to supply gold to some jewellers in the city.

He was standing at the busy Jai Stambh Chowk area here when two men threw chilly powder at him and snatched his bag that contained 3.5 kg of gold worth Rs.3.5 million, Additional Superintendent of Police (city) Lal Umed Singh told reporters.

Khanna then filed a complaint at the Raipur Moudhapaara police station, the official said.

A hunt was launched to trace the two robbers, the official said.
