The National Crisis Management Cell of the interior ministry issued the warning as the security situation in Pakistan continues to deteriorate.

Several suicide bombers linked to the Taliban have reached other parts of the country from tribal areas to target Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders Asif Ali Zardari and Makhdoom Amin Faheem as well as other politicians and officers of law enforcement agencies, The News reported Saturday.

Possible targets also include former railway minister Shaikh Rashid Ahmed, said the online edition of The News.

The ministry has issued a memo asking the four provincial governments and the administration in Pakistan-administered Kashmir to be on the alert and take adequate security measures.

At least 40 people were killed and over 50 wounded Friday in a suicide bomb attack in northwest Pakistan during the funeral of deputy police superintendent Javed Iqbal.

Many of the dead in the attack were colleagues and relatives of Iqbal, who was killed in a bomb attack by suspected Islamic militants.

Pakistan has suffered over five dozen suicide attacks in the past 13 months, killing more than 1,000 people.
