Bangalore : US-based Indian Sunitha Rao failed to make it to the main draw of the $600,000 WTA Bangalore Open, losing in straight sets to Tiantian Sun of China here at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSTA) Monday.
Sunitha – ranked 181 – the second best Indian women’s tennis player on the professional circuit after Sania Mirza, was undone by her weak serve and numerous unforced errors Monday.
She eventually bowed out 6-2, 6-1 against Sun in the final qualifying round, thus restricting India’s challenge only to wildcard holders Shikha Uberoi and Isha Lakhani.
