4-Day Global Minorities Meet being held in Delhi

Addressing a 4-day Global Minorities Meet held here in parliament annexi, he said the commission has furnished information that has shaken the country. This totally negates the propaganda launched by fascist communalist and anti-minority forces that minorities have long been appeased.

The programme was held under the auspices of South Asian Council for Minorities, in cooperation with the Institute of Objective Studies. Representatives of minorities in a number of countries including U.S., Canada, U.K., Bosnia, Kenya, Australia, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Pakistan, Afghanistan and India participated in the conference.

Sikh leader Ranbir Singh Sindhu from the U.S. spoke on ‘Racial Violence, State Machinery’s Role and Protection of Minorities.’ He said Silkhs earlier had to face too many difficulties and social and political discrimination in the U.S. but this was caused by lack of Sikh participation in social and political affairs. He said experiences of Sikh community in there have not been good but not bitter as the judiciary, administration and public life did pose any hindrance for them.

Narrating the status of backward Hindus in Pakistan, Ramesh Mal told they are subject to double discrimination there. On one side politicians overlook them considering them as Hindus and on the other hand upper castes of Hindus exploit them. He said backward Hindu population resides in the interiors of Sindh province where powerful landlords treat them as untouchables.
