Another MNF soldier was injured as an improvised explosive device detonated near a patrol in the troubled Diyala province, the statement said Tuesday.

The incident came as the MNF announced Monday that it lost five soldiers in a suicide bombing which targeted their patrol in the Al-Mansour neighbourhood, in western Baghdad.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending next of kin notification and release by the Department of Defence.

With this report, the number of US soldiers killed since the beginning of the war in Iraq in March 2003 stands at 3,983, of which 10 were killed this month alone.
