Ranchi : A retired judge was shot and seriously injured in Jamshedpur Thursday, the police said.

R.P. Ravi, a retired district judge and in charge of Jamshedpur Lok Adalat, was attacked by criminals when he was going to court Thursday morning.

They tried to snatch the bag he was carrying. When he resisted, they shot him twice in the thigh.

“It appears that the criminals mistook his identity and attacked the judge. The criminals seem to have thought that Ravi was carrying money in his bag. This may be a case of looting,” said R.K. Mallik, spokesperson of Jharkhand police.

Ravi has been admitted to Tata Main hospital (TMH) of Jamshedpur. His condition is stable.

Last year, shoe baron Ashish Dey was killed in the steel city Jamshedpur when he was going to office. Dey was one of the partners of Sreeleather, a shoe company.
