“We have arrested three of the four militants who carried out the blast last week,” Ahfadul Mujtaba, Srinagar district police chief, told a news conference here this evening.

“Militant outfit Hizbul Mujaheedin (HM) had assigned its four north Kashmir activists to carry out the blast as it had failed to strike in capital city.

“Directions were to cause a blast at any cost as HM had not been able to carry out any act of subversion in Srinagar city for long, and this was a desperate and deliberate act that led to the death of a civilian and injuries to many others.”

One person was killed and 25 others were wounded in a powerful bomb explosion on Srinagar’s only flyover March 19. The blast came after a lull of nearly eight months.
