Tabriz (Iran) : At least five people on board a helicopter have been killed after it crashed near the Oushan Mountains in Iran’s northwestern province of East Azarbaijan, IRNA news agency reported Saturday.
According to a provincial official the incident took place Friday afternoon. The helicopter belonged to the police.
The commander of East Azarbaijan Police, Brigadier Mohammad-Ali Nosrati said the chopper crashed near Oushan mountains in the vicinity of the city of Varzeqan, in the province of East Azarbaijan.
The pilot, two co-pilots and two provincial police officials were on board. The helicopter was on a mission to monitor highway traffic in the Varzeqan area, he said.
The cause of the accident is being investigated, Nosrati added.
