Baghdad : An American soldier died of wounds sustained from a roadside bomb attack in Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Saturday.
The attack took place on Friday in south of the capital, a military statement said.
The incident came as Shiite militiamen loyal to radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr are battling U.S.-backed Iraqi security forces in many Iraqi cities, including Baghdad.
About 4,005 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the breakout of Iraq war in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
