Ramallah : Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad has said that Israel should ease the suffering of the Palestinian people by acting on the ground to enable the Palestinian Authority meet the needs of Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
Fayyad said in a statement after meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak in occupied Jerusalem Sunday that the Israeli statement over the removal of roadblocks and halting building of settlements should materialise on the ground.
Fayyad stressed on the importance of halting the Jewish settlement expansions as part of the roadmap.
Rice said that Israel has agreed to remove 50 roadblocks in the West Bank but did not determine their locations.
Fayyad and Barak agreed to give the Palestinian security forces more responsibility in the West Bank.
