Damascus : Arab leaders have wrapped up their summit meeting in the Syrian capital with a warning that they will not continue with the Middle East peace initiative if Israel does not honor its international commitments regarding peace.
In the Damascus Declaration issued at the end of the two-day summit Sunday, they also warned against the intransigence of Israel, which persists in its blockade policy, and denounced as a crime against humanity the activities of the Jewish state.
The declaration called on the United Nations Security Council to assume its responsibilities regarding the situation, and urged all parties concerned to work towards lifting the siege imposed on the Palestinian people and for the opening of the points of passage.
The leaders stressed on the need to free the Middle East from weapons of mass destruction, urging Israel to adhere to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
The Declaration also tackled the situation is Iraq, Lebanon, Sudan and Somalia, urging all the parties in these countries to endeavour to establish peace, stability, unity and national reconciliation.
It called on Arab states to transcend inter-Arab disputes through dialogue and through favouring the supreme interests of Muslims, while highlighting the necessity to face firmly any foreign intervention that could worsen such disputes.
The summit voiced solidarity with Syria against foreign threats, which, the declaration stressed, represented a breach of the international law.
The two-day meeting had taken place with the participation of all the member states of the Arab League except Lebanon, which boycotted the meeting.
