Identified as Nadeem, the undertrial was arrested by the Ghazipur police last March for stealing motorcycles.

Keshav Nath, the police constable accompanying Nadeem, said the accused somehow managed to free himself and fled from the court complex.

“Nath has been suspended and efforts are on to nab Nadeem,” said Ghulam Abbas, public relations officer of the Lucknow senior superintendent of police.

Said A.K. Dwivedi, inspector at Ghazipur police station: “We had recovered three stolen motorcycles from Nadeem.”

He said Nadem was booked under the Gangsters Act and had a long criminal record.

Earlier, a criminal of Unnao, Sachin Verma, also booked under the Gangsters Act, escaped April 15 after throwing red chilly powder into the eyes of the policeman accompanying him.
