Bomb threat on New Delhi-bound Mangala Express

Mumbai : Hundreds of passengers travelling by a New Delhi-bound passenger train had to alight at a station on the outskirts of this metropolis after a bomb threat Thursday afternoon.

The Mangala Express had left Ernakulam, Kerala, Wednesday afternoon and passed Mumbai a little past 1 p.m.

When the train reached Kalyan, on the outskirts of Mumbai, soon after 2 p.m. Mumbai Police informed the railway control authorities that they have received information about a bomb having been placed aboard the train, a railway spokesperson here told IANS.

The train was stopped at Kalyan station and hundreds of passengers scrambled out of the train in panic.

A bomb detection squad along with Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police GRP and local police searched the train for over two hours but no explosives were found. The train later resumed its run to New Delhi.
