Gandhinagar : The Jan Seva Kendra of the Gandhinagar collectorate has won the Stockholm Challenge Award for 2008 in the public administration category for enhancing accountability of public officials.
The award, instituted by the International Royal Institute of Technology, was conferred upon seven projects after the jury selected 145 outstanding information and communication technology (ICT) projects from 52 countries under six categories.
All finalists were invited to make a presentation of their projects before the jury in Stockholm. In the award celebration May 22, all winners were given the Stockholm Challenge Trophy and a cheque for 5,000 euros.
The award for the Jan Seva Kendra was received by Sonal Misra, who pioneered this innovative project when she was the Gandhinagar collector.
The Jan Seva Kendra, combining technology and governance, offers over 90 types of civic services, 44 types of affidavits and several value-added services in a convenient manner.
These encompass land related issues, civil supplies matters, revenue collection, grant of licenses, issue of certificates, Right to Information (RTI) cases and affidavits. The Jan Seva Kendras have also been extended to 80 sub-districts of Gujarat.
