India: Congress rejects Mundhra’s claims on film on Sonia

By NNN-PTI,

New Delhi : The Congress rejected filmmaker Jagmohan Mundhra’s claims of party chief Sonia Gandhi having cleared his proposed film based on her life and said his remarks were aimed at sensationalism and cheap publicity.

“People should desist from sensationalism or cheap publicity. That will not help any supposed film project,” AICC spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said recently.

He expressed surprise at Mundra suddenly making the statement two years after he met Gandhi over the proposed film, saying “these distorted and exaggerated claims are self-defeating.”

Mundhra had recently said at the Cannes Film Festival that he had shared all the research work on the proposed biopic with Gandhi and she has given him the go-ahead, only asking him to hold on until the the next General Elections.

Singhvi, who was present at the only meeting between Gandhi and Mundhra 18 months ago, said the filmmaker’s statement was “erroneous” and “irresponsible”.
