Ramallah : Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said that negotiations with Syria are serious and not for the media.
Olmert said during an ordinary cabinet session Sunday that negotiations with Syria were being held behind closed doors and away from the media.
He said that Israel does not want to conduct negotiations with Syria through the media, daily statements or by raising slogans.
He pointed out that Israel had conducted negotiations previously with Syria, and that the public knew about it. However, details of such negotiations and their sensitive points were kept secret.
Former Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army Dan Halutz had told the Israeli radio that Israel could manage its matters without the Golan Heights.
