Beirut : The Lebanese presidency said that according to the constitution, the government is considered resigned following the election of army commander General Michel Suleiman as president by parliament.
Once Suleiman was elected as president, the government resigns automatically, and the new president has asked the government to handle the affairs of the country as care-taker, a statement issued by the presidency said Sunday.
Suleiman will now conduct consultations with leaders of parties ahead of naming the next prime minister.
