The celebration will be focused on the government entrepreneurship program, known as “GoNegosyo” which will be publicized at the Rizal Park in central Manila, said the report.

Presidential Management Staff head Cerge Remonde said instead of the traditional civic and military parade, the country will showcase all the micro, small and medium enterprise products that are offered by the government.

Some loans earlier applied for by micro entrepreneurs will also be released on that day, he said.

Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said at the government website Independence Day activities will “honor the sacrifices of our heroes, not by words alone but through deeds that give flesh to their vision.”

He said the activities to be held throughout the country will highlight themes ranging from housing programs, farming, anti-poverty programs, education, environment protection, to tourism and health.

The Philippines gained independence from Spain in 1898.
