In an article published in a daily of Madrid, the PP leadership member held that the current internal crisis obeys to lack of renewed, solid, and integrating leadership.

“Much as I dislike, that is something Mariano Rajoy is not in the position to give, said Elorriaga to join the increasing list of leaders of the party that openly criticize the top figure of that organization.”

That adds to the decision by known party members of deserting the group’s ranks and consolidation of two sides that are more defined each time and started to shape before the March elections.

One of the key figures within the crisis is Madrid’s Autonomous Community President Esperanza Aguirre, said to be Rajoy’s main adversary in the struggle for power.

However, the dynamic conservative politician said on Monday she has never had the idea of being the PP’s presidential candidate, but she clarified that if she changes her mind, Rajoy would be the first to know.

The questioned party leader confirmed three days ago his candidacy to reelection for that post in the coming congress, and rejected those who want him “to throw in the towel” as leader of the Spanish main opposition political force.

The conservative leader held that there is no other declared candidate so far to dispute the PP top post to him, but “a number of people that are trying that I do not take over as the party president, and that will not happen.”
