By Xinhua,
Bagdhad : At least 11 people were killed and 36 injured in a suicide car bombing at a marketplace in Iraq’s Nineveh province Saturday, the police said.
The blast took place when a suicide bomber blew up his explosive-laden car near a busy market in Tal Afar, some 70 km west of provincial capital Mosul, a police said on condition of anonymity.
Nineveh province, and its capital Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad, is said to be one of the last strongholds of Al Qaeda insurgents in the war-torn country.
The province has been the scene of a major security crackdown by US troops and Iraqi security forces, which was aimed at uprooting Al Qaeda militants and other anti-US insurgent groups.
