Zahedan, Quetta to be declared twin cities: officials

Islamabad : Pakistani and Iranian authorities have agreed to declare the Pakistani southwestern city of Quetta and the Iranian Zahedan as “Twin Cities” to strengthen brotherly and cordial relations between the neighbouring countries.

Quetta is the capital of Balochistan province.

A formal announcement to declare Quetta and Zahedan as twin cities will be made in Tehran in the first week of the coming month, officials from both sides said here.

The decision was made at a meeting between Iranian consul general to Quetta Hassan Mohseni and mayor of Quetta Maqbool Ahmed Lehri on Monday, an official statement said.

The consul general said that Zahedan, bordering town of Iran linking with Pakistan, had great significance in terms of cultural perspective and trade links with Quetta.

He invited Maqbool Ahmed Lehri to Zahedan for studying local government system there.
