Islamabad : At least three militants and five soldiers were killed in an exchange of fire between the two sides in a northern Pakistani district, said sources on Sunday.
Local Taliban militants attacked a security checkpost in Bannu tribal district of North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) Saturday night, security sources told KUNA.
The attack left five soldiers dead and wounded another, said sources. They said further that immediately after the attack, the forces launched an operation in the area.
The two sides were exchanging heavy fire, which was still continuing, they said, adding that more than three militants have been confirmed killed and over 20 others were wounded.
Also, in Bajaur tribal agency, according to local media reports, the security forces in the ongoing operation have killed eight militants and wounded three others.
