Tehran : IAEA’s Representative to Iran Christer Viktorsson has said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is now fully cooperating with the IAEA to maintain safety of the Bushehr nuclear power plant.
He made the remark in his address to the First International Seminar on Nuclear Power Plant, Environment and Sustainable Development here on Sunday.
Cooperation between the IAEA and Iran on the security and safety of Bushehr nuclear power plant is in line with existing protocols and agreements, he said.
Technical points should be observed in the construction of nuclear power plants, he said, adding that there are many countries in Asia seeking to benefit from nuclear energy to meet their domestic needs.
Several Asian countries mainly in Southeast Asia as well as in the Middle East region have called for replacement of fossil fuel with nuclear energy and seek to win support of the IAEA to this effect, he said.
The IAEA renders any services to meet safety demands during the setting up of new nuclear power plants, he said.
Iran has observed all safety requirements for construction of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, he said.
