Damascus : Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament and the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) Dr. Mahmoud al-Mashhadani called for developing its work and further activating its role in the interest of the Arab Nation and preserving its identity under the challenges and pressures put to it.
In a speech he delivered at the opening session of the AIPU’s Executive Committee at Cham palace Hotel in Damascus, Dr. Mashhadani said the Committee, which was formed in the AIPU’s 13th Conference, would give a big momentum to the work of the AIPU through cooperation and coordination among Arab parliaments.
He pointed out that the AIPU had been able to occupy a prominent regional and international role since its foundation.
For his part, Secretary General of the AIPU Nuruddin Boushkoj said the meeting of the Executive Committee is the first since the introduction of the latest amendments to the AIPU’s Charter.
He expressed the hope that the participants in the meetings will reach results that brings the AIPU to the level of challenges and the aspirations of the Arab Nation.
