Islamabad : Pakistan’s president-elect Asif Ali Zardari said on Saturday that the parliament should be sovereign.
“This president shall be subservient to the parliament,” said Zardari, widower of slain former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, in Islamabad after he won the presidential election.
Zadari won a clear majority in the presidential election to replace his predecessor Pervez Musharraf who resigned last month under impeachment pressure.
“I have been sent by the people of Pakistan to this Office to fix the imbalances in the system, bring peace into the country and unite all democratic forces to consolidate the political system,” said Zardari in a press release.
The Election Commission of Pakistan is likely to declare official results on Monday and the oath-taking ceremony is expected on Tuesday.
