The radio quoted several ministerial sources which said that Olmert could hand in his resignation to President Shimon Peres, adding that the resignation would be in effect as soon as Peres returns from the UN General Assembly in about two weeks.

Olmert was forced to announce his resignation after being accused of financial fraud.

Olmert’s Kadima party held its elections last Wednesday. Israeli’s ruling faction elected Foreign Minister Tzipni Livni leader and Prime Minister of Israel.

Livni now will focus on forming the new government.
