Mogadishu : At least 29 civilians died over the weekend in Somalia as a result of the worst fighting in months between government forces and insurgents.
On Monday, 19 people were killed including children after mortar rounds slammed into the Bakara market, in Mogadishu.
Another 10 Somalis died Sunday when the Islamic insurgents shelled one of the bases of the African Union (AU) peace-keeping forces.
At least 8 AU soldiers have died in Somalia so far as a result of armed clashes; two of them were shot during the weekend.
