OIC delegation visits Kashmir

Muzaffarabad : A delegation from the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), headed by the Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Ambassador Ezzat Kamel Mufti, Special Representative of OIC on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, visited the area of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from 14 to 16 September 2008. The visit comes within the framework of OIC’s solidarity with the Kashmiri people, according to an OIC statement. During the visit the delegation was received by Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Pakistani Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The delegation also met with political leaders in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, represented by the President of Azad Kashmir Raja Zulqarnain Khan and Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Sardar Atique Ahmed Khan.

The Kashmiri political leaders expressed their thanks and appreciation for the sincere efforts the OIC Secretary General deploys and the great interest he attaches to the situation of the Kashmiri people and his dedicated efforts to follow up on the implementation of the Islamic Summit resolutions and the ministerial decisions on the issue of Kashmir. The delegation conducted a field tour to observe the conditions of the Kashmiri people in the province, particularly in the areas devastated by the earthquake that hit the region in October 2005. The delegation inspected the large facilities the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF) rebuilt or renovated to support the victims of the earthquake.
