Zardari, Gilani offer condolences on Czech ambassador’s death

Islamabad : Pakistan leaders today offered condolences to the Czech Republic on the tragic demise of its Ambassador to Pakistan Ivo Zdarek, who was killed in a terrorist attack at Marriott Hotel. President Asif Ali Zardari in his message to Czech President Vaclav Klaus expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of Czech envoy. “We strongly condemn this despicable act in which a number of innocent people have lost their lives and many others were injured,” he said adding Pakistan remains firm in its resolve to root out terrorism and extremism, and shall not be deterred by such acts. “We seek the support and understanding of the international community in our common struggle against this menace,” APP reported quoting Zardari as saying.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in his message to Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek termed the death of Czech envoy a great loss, not only for his own country, but also for Paksitan. “The late Ambassador Zdarek was a dedicated and professional diplomat,” the Prime Minister said. Gilani said his government strongly condemned this barbaric act which resulted in the loss of many innocent precious human lives. “We are determined to fight against the terrorists and take all measures to protect the lives and property of our citizens,” he said adding said security measures for foreigners including diplomatic missions and staff had been upgraded.
