Islamabad : The toll in a building collapse in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi has risen to 23, TV reports said Monday.
Rescue workers have pulled out more bodies from the rubble of the five-storey building that collapsed in the Mithadar area of the city Friday night.
The chief fire officer has confirmed the toll to the media Monday.
He said it is unlikely that more bodies could remain trapped under the debris.
The rescue operation was hindered due to the narrow lanes leading to the site.
Officials said it will take more time to remove the debris.
Sindh Province Health Minister Sagheer Ahmad said the building might have collapsed after the recent monsoon rains damaged the structure.
In July, more than 50 people were killed in various incidents caused by the first spell of the monsoon rains in the city.
