Lucknow: Four school students were killed and one student was seriously injured when a train ran over them Tuesday in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, police said.
“The mishap took place this (Tuesday) afternoon when the students crossing railway tracks in Sultanpur’s Sidhauli village were hit by a Delhi-bound summer special train,” Superintendent of Police (Sultanpur) Satyendra Vikram Singh told IANS on phone.
While four students, including three girls, died on the spot, another managed to survive despite serious injuries on his head. He is being treated at a district hospital where his condition is described critical, Singh added.
According to police, the students who died were from Sant Kabir Shikshan Sansthan and were in the age group of 6-14 years.
Sultanpur is about 150 km from Lucknow
