Police seize huge cache of pirated CDs in Punjab

Ludhiana (Punjab) : The Punjab police Tuesday seized over 4,000 pirated CDs and arrested one man after a tip-off from the officials of the Indian Music Industry, a consortium of 142 firms.

“This anti-piracy raid was conducted here at Sharma-Jain electronics shop. The seizures include 1,200 DVDs, 2,156 CDs, 17 CD writers, 788 MP3 CDs and around 18,900 inlay cards,” a police officer said.

The police recovered titles and MP3s of various latest movies like “Welcome”, “Singh is Kinng”, “Raaz”, “Jannat” and others.

The police have arrested one person for the piracy.

Indian Music Industry’s general secretary Savio D’Souza said the entire music industry suffers losses worth Rs.6 billion annually due to piracy.

“Such raids will prove beneficial for the industry and also boost the morale of the artistes,” he said.

Ludhiana, industrial hub of Punjab, is around 100 km from the state capital Chandigarh.
