New Delhi : Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar Friday greeted fellow citizens on the eve of the Independence Day and urged them to rededicate themselves to promote an inclusive society.

In her message, the first woman speaker said the day reminds people of the supreme sacrifices made by the national leaders during the freedom struggle.

“I congratulate all citizens on the auspicious occasion of the Independence Day. While it is a day that fills our hearts with a sense of patriotism and togetherness, it also reminds us of the supreme sacrifices made by our national leaders during the freedom struggle and, subsequently, during the past six decades, to make India a strong and vibrant nation,” she said.

“On this day, let us take a pledge to rededicate ourselves for the promotion of an inclusive society and channelise our efforts to rid our people of all forms of inequities and deprivation,” Meira Kumar said.
