Kochi: Activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), youth wing of the CPI (M), and the Popular Front of India clashed with each other over the recent school parliament elections held in Kerala. Six persons including a Sub Inspector was injured in the stone-pelting that took place in Perambra in Kozhikode district.
The police broke tear gas shells to control the crowds.
Clashes had occurred between the activists of the Students Federation of India and the Campus Front last day over the election held in the Higher Secondary School at Meppayur. The activists of the DYFI and the PFI fought in the town as a continuation of the strife.
The PFI had organized a protest march in the town. The pelting of stones at the march led to fresh clashes. The PFI accuse the DYFI behind the stone-pelting.
M Sajeev Kumar, SI of Meppayur, Thammana Ismail, Meppayur division council president of the PFI, and Vijith, Ramadas, Vipinlal and Anoop, activists of the DYFI, were injured. The police are camping in the area. JVN Subrahmanian, ASP, visited the place.
