Islamabad : On the first Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, security has been put on high alert across Pakistan for fear of terror incidents, said police.
Security around mosques was enhanced and police and extra troops were vigilantly patrolling the streets in all major cities of the country, police sources told KUNA.
Sources from Quetta and Peshawar said that along with police, paramilitary troopers were being deployed to vital government buildings and foreign offices.
Interior Ministry sources said that there were intelligence reports of possible terror attacks on the first Friday of Ramadan.
On Thursday, about 21 paramilitary troopers were killed in a suicide blast in Khyber tribal agency near Pak-Afghan Torkham border, only minutes before they were gathered to break their fast.
