Centre will help Rajasthan tackle drought: PM

Barmer : After surveying drought hit areas in Rajasthan, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday assured the state that the central government will provide all financial help to mitigate the suffering of the people.

“I know that different parts of India, including Rajasthan, are suffering due to drought. I would like to assure Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and the people of the state that the central government will, together with the state government, try its best to mitigate the current problems,” Singh said at the ceremony to dedicate the Cairn India’s Mangala oil field in Barmer.

Rajasthan has declared 26 of its 33 districts as drought-hit and demanded Rs.12,690 crore (Rs.12.69 billion) from the National Calamity Contingency Fund.

Earlier, the prime minister undertook an aerial survey of drought-hit areas in Rajasthan.
