Now, Maneka comes out in support of Jaswant

By IANS,

Budaun (Uttar Pradesh) : Extending guarded support to expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jaswant Singh, party MP Maneka Gandhi Saturday said the sacking would have been “fair and appropriate” if the party leadership had first read his controversial book on Pakistan founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

“The BJP leadership could have expelled Jaswant Singh, but it would have been fair and appropriate if they had taken care to first read his book before taking such a decision,” Maneka told reporters here Saturday.

She was here to address a rally for the forthcoming bye-elections in two assembly segments of her Aonla Lok Sabha constituency.

However, Maneka declined to comment on whether the action against Jaswant Singh was right.

The BJP expelled Jaswant Singh over his book “Jinnah- India, Partition, Independence”, in which he has praised Jinnah.

The party action has come in for criticism from other BJP leaders, including Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie.
